A Mum's Story

Hello and welcome

I’m the founder of the Everyday Mums group in Ipswich. I’m a wife and the mother of two little girls – Maggie (4) and Rosie (2).

As well as running a household and being a wife and mum (which, let’s face it is a fulltime job) I love exercising, cooking healthy food, and enjoying a glass of wine or two with my gal pals when time permits.

In August 2017, I was heavily pregnant with our first baby when my husband and I relocated from Brisbane CBD to Ipswich. That’s when I went on the hunt to find my local tribe of fellow mammas.

It was hard.

I found so few people to connect with that when my first baby arrived, I ended up driving to Brisbane every week or two, just to connect with my Brisbane mum friends. I’m sure most mums can relate when I tell you, making the trip with a baby always turned into a whole day event!

Then, when my second daughter came along (and so did a global pandemic – I’m sure those events are unrelated). The world as we knew it crashed down around us. Suddenly there was no more driving into Brisbane with two kids under two! There was in fact no driving anywhere.

I knew I needed to find another way to connect with mums in the Ipswich area. My husband and I didn’t really have family close by. I started to wonder, ‘Should it be this hard? Where is this ‘village’ that people talk of? What if I had a group of rad local mum friends to meet with each week?’

I went back on the hunt again. I joined multiple local ‘Mums and Bubs’ Facebook groups and saw a common theme… lots of mums wanting to connect with other mums. I could see mums everywhere expressing the same feelings I had, but the online conversations were going nowhere.

I started to wonder if perhaps there was a way of facilitating this connection that we all craved. So, I decided to give it a go, and create that thing I wished I could find. That’s where the idea for Everyday Mums came from – feeling isolated, tired, and out of touch, and with two babies under two. In essence, Everyday Mums is what I envisioned, and what I have been searching for: it’s a safe space for mums to connect, gain friendship, knowledge, and support networks.

So welcome to your local tribe of rad mums. I’m so glad you found us, and I hope you enjoy connecting with everyday mums just like you.
